GTCF Honored with Two Community Partnership Awards
GTCF Honored with Two Community Partnership Awards
Greater Tacoma Community Foundation was honored with two community partnership awards in April.
The Washington Association of School Administrators recognized Greater Tacoma Community Foundation for its partnership with Tacoma Public Schools (TPS). Dr. Joshua Garcia, Deputy Superintendent of TPS, commended GTCF’s program team for its dedication to providing quality expanded learning opportunities for youth.
GTCF and TPS are partners in The Wallace Foundation-funded work of testing how to provide aligned, equitable, high-quality social, emotional, and academic development to students in and out of school. The partnership is the second phase of the Tacoma Whole Child Initiative, or Shift 2, and is co-designed by the TPS and expanded learning communities.

Also in April, GTCF received the 2018 White River Communities Champion Award. Presented by the White River Families First Coalition, a collaborative of health and human service organizations in the White River community, the award is given annually to recognize the service and dedication of those making a difference in the White River community.
This award is a tribute to the late Marydale Brooks. Ms. Brooks started working with GTCF ten years ago on her philanthropy as a donor-advisor. She was dedicated to serving her Buckley – White River community.
Ms. Brooks passed away earlier in April, but her legacy will continue with the White River Hometown Endowment Fund. The Fund will continue to invest in organizations and projects in the White River community forever.
Greater Tacoma Community Foundation is dedicated to providing resources for individuals and organizations to work together for a stronger Pierce County. Partnership is a vital part of successful community building, and GTCF is grateful to be recognized by organizations whose work builds a stronger future for everyone.
